Watch out when buying online

23. August 2019 | CONEDU
For safe online shopping, customers have to assess the trustworthiness of online sellers, use secure payment methods and pay attention to data economy.

If you want to shop safely on the web, you have to verify the integrity of the online retailer. Positive ratings from other customers as well as a complete imprint and transparent general terms and conditions are good indicators. Clear information on payment, delivery and rights of withdrawal are also important. Be careful with bargains from abroad: exchanges and refunds could be problematic. Besides, duties and taxes could significantly increase the purchase price as well.

For security reasons, you should only indicate necessary data when ordering and rather not create a user profile. Make sure that the data transfer is encrypted – the abbreviation “https” in the URL indicates this. With regard to payment methods, it is advisable to prefer payment by invoice, direct debit or credit card. The option of paying in advance should only be considered with doubtlessly trustworthy websites.
